Useful Tips for Business Travellers to India:
- Indians are much relaxed attitude toward punctuality. People generally, didn’t mind If you are 15 minutes late for a business appointment. If you show up on time for a social engagement, you might find yourself to be the first to arrive; at times even the host may appear at least half an hour late.
- Indian hotels generally meet all international standards, most three-star and better hotels have clean & comfortable beds, full backup power, 24-hour air-conditioning and western-style toilets.
- Buildings in India are generally not friendly to physically challenged persons neither are toilets. Sidewalks may be uneven, and crosswalks generally don’t have ramps. You should consider hiring a helper when you travel in India if you have any physical disability.
- It is always handy for tourist to have with themselves, travels guide, since it is not easy to track routes and addresses easily in most of the cities.
- For longer distances, it is always advisable to travel by railways or airways, as travel by roads is neither much comfortable nor safe. Though in recent years, there has been a significant development in terms of roads in India.
- General office timings in India are 9:00 am – 6:00 pm, though in private organizations work continues till late in night. Best meeting time is generally early morning or at or around lunch.
- At an Indian party, most socializing happens before dinner, and guests often leave immediately after dessert, which could be served as late as midnight.

Tips for preparing to work in India...
- It is necessary to obtain a visa & work permit from the Indian embassy, consulate or high commission in your country before leaving for India. The process is not much cumbersome as much compared to getting a work permit for the United States.
- Always register with your embassy or consulate upon arriving in India. They can be quite helpful in settling down and in the case of an emergency. You may also need to register with the Foreigners Office of the Indian government.
- In case of metro cities, you will find various residential options in form of apartments, bungalows, independent floors etc. The general lease period is 11 months along with security of 2 months. The lease period is renewable before the end of its tenure.
- In India you will find good English schools in all major cities, which are recognized by the term “Public Schools”. During recent years, a lot of International Schools have also come up. There are two mains central boards which regulate the imparting of education in school i.e. Central Board of Secondary Education & Indian Council of Secondary Education. In states, the state government have established their own education board.
- Groceries and other consumable items are available at all places conveniently; markets generally do not remain open beyond midnights.
- General utilities like electricity, telephone etc are easily available.
- Traffic can be in India, therefore choose the location of your home, office and schools carefully and plan your commuting accordingly.
